Dhal Curry is a tasty dish which can be served with hot rice, bread or even roti and string hoppers. It is one of the most famous dish that can be prepared within 20 – 30 minutes simply. Known as “Parippu” in Sri Lankan vocabulary, Dhal curry is very common in every home, restaurants even in functions. It can be prepared as spicy or sweet as per the requirement.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of Red Dhal
- Chopped 2 – 3 small onions (shallots)
- Chopped green chilies
- Chopped garlic (2
cloves)
- 1 cup of Coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon of red chili powder
- 1 tablespoon of curry powder
- ½ tablespoon of turmeric powder
- Pandan leaves
- Curry leaves
- Mustard seed
- 2 red dried chili pods
- Salt as per the taste
- 2 tablespoons of oil
Instructions
- Wash the dhal and put into a clay pot.
- Then add chopped onions, green chilies, chopped garlic, water and salt.
- Cook it on medium heat for 10 minutes.
- Then add coconut milk and boil until the dhal are softly cooked.
- Keep another pot or pan on hearth and add oil.
- When the oil is heated, add chopped onions, mustard seeds, garlic, pandan leaves, curry leaves, 2 red dried chili pieces (cut down from chili pods) and temper the mixture for couple of minutes.
- When the ingredients get golden brown add dhal to the mixture and stir it well.
- Add salt as per taste and boil for 10 minutes.
- Finally take off the pot from the fire and your dhal curry is ready to serve.
